"Shakespeare" is an extremely varied name in terms of spelling and pronunciation. Here are some different
ways it has been spelled and pronounced:
Shakspere; Shakespere; Shakkespere; Shaxpere; Shakstaff; Shagspere; Sakspere; Shakeshafte; Chaksper.
Shakespeare's father's name, JOHN SHAKESPEARE, occurs 166 times in the council book of the Stratford
corporation, and takes 16 different forms. Shakesspeare himself always signed 'Shakspere', but in many documents of his work,
his name appeared 'Shakespeare. Often in the 15th century, authors would hyphenate their surname in order to avoid revealing
their true identidty to the public. |
